Hello - beginner

Post by mcarr on 2012-07-18, 10:53

Just wanted to say hello to everyone. My name is Maria and I am totally new to quilling and feel all fingers and thumbs still, but managing to produce little flowers. I live in the UK, which is very wet and has been most of the summer, so great to sit indoors and craft.

I have been having a good look at all your work and it is inspirational. Hopefully my playing will allow me to make something pretty that I can post eventually.

Hello to all, I am Angie. I have been doing quilling for the past ten or so years. I am from South Africa and we have not got a lot of patterns. I have improvised a lot but every now and then I get out of ideas. I found this website and thought I would give it a go. I am please to meet everyone on here.

Welcome Angie,
I have picked up a few patterns from a South African magazine here in Australia. But I have not seen the magazine recently.
There is now an explosion of ideas on the internet.
Do you do any of your country's native flowers?

To be honest, the only one I have done so far is the Protea. I love Proteas and thus tried my hand opn them. Thank for the reply I really appreciate it. Have u or any one ou know been doing the protea before?

I have seen on the internet taht there is soooo many ideas but then we have the problem of paper. Its not readily available. When one can get it then the colours is so vast that you actually forgot you only want this or that colour and end up getting what u never wanted before but its good as well as you then try something new.

Oh I meant to say, we had a lady here by the name of Bettie Boshoff who used to do a lot of quilling, she has aslo put her hand to paper and wrote two little books regarding basic quillng and then some nice patterns. She however left South Africa as well so at the moment I ahve no idea if anybody else is doing it.

I think Bettie Boshoff was the name of the quiller behind the magazine patterns I saw.
I myself have not attempted a protea. I can imagine they would be as intricate as some of Australia's native flowers, which are all very time consuming.
We are fortunate here we have good paper suppliers, including Lauren who runs the forum.
Sometimes I cut my own paper.
