The 3D Quilling Book Must-Have

Post by quillingsavy on 2010-03-10, 05:40

Anyone else have this book?

http://craft-idea.blogspot.com/2008/09/three-dimensional-quilling-making.html

I suggest it to anyone, advanced or a beginner to 3D quilling. It's awesome because it has step by step instructions and pictures, as well as measurements to its height! The fairy is the best in here- I love doing the people, and it's nice to use these measurements for normal people too, just with an extra strip for the skirt! Anyone else have this book? This book is what got me addicted to 3D quilling, and it's really one of the very few 3D quilling books out there! Links to other 3D quilling books is also appreciated Very Happy.

I have it, but am yet to be adventurous and do something from it.
Maybe 2010 will be the year cat

Yes I have this book too. You should give it a go Bronwyn... some of the projects look great. I used some of the ideas in here to do my own. I am making a ballerina (she is about 5 inches tall) based on inspiration from this book. I haven't finished her Tutu yet and I have to work out how I want her arms to go. I haven't really felt like finishing her for a while, so she has been armless and tutu less since Christmas!

It is a good book though. Definately good for inspiration at the very least.

Cheerio,
Belinda.

I just got the book, but Dont think I'm ready to try making them yet but I will some day.I also have " Twirled Paper"."Quilled Greeting cards","Quilling Flowers", Quilled Boarders & Motifs. They are all good books. I ordered them from Amazon.com, it's where you can buy new and used books, used books look new and they were only $5.00 for the used ones. Thought I'd share this with you incase anyone was looking to buy a book and wanted to save a little.

Hi everyone,
Have you tried fishpond books? they have about 35 quilling books available and I have a link. They are similar to amazon but Australian. They don't have the second hand ones but all the new ones are wholesale and orders over $50 are free postage. I know when I went to get the postage to Australia it was over the price of a new book. It may just be worth a look, just type in Quilling under the search. Most the books at last check were about 33% off new price

Jo sent me the book paper twirling too and it is fabulous. My girls are so looking forward to making some of the things in there. Jean also has 4 books published which you can get directly from her and if you click on her profile you can email her directly. She is also going to put an ebook up that she has just put together. Very exciting as they are all new patterns we haven't seen. I love the idea of downloading new books and cutting the cost of paper.
I will have to have a look at that one for 3d quilling, I love your basket on your avatar, and Belinda your cup and saucer is one of my fav's. Look fwd to seeing the ballerina

Hi Karon,

i too have used Fishpond quite a few times. Not just for quilling books either! They have all sorts of books, great costs and it was fantastic. I must say I don't really shop for books at my craft store because they are too expensive.

They also give you discounts for the books that you review... check it out it may be worth it!

Hi Belinda,
Yes, in our store we actually put links back to fishpond as this is the cheapest and best way for people to buy quilling books and like you said it is just to expensive in the craft shops. At least they have a huge selection so I have listed each book they have there so you can get an easy link back to exactly what you want as sometimes when you put in quilling you get books on feathers too!! lol!
It is like doing a google on quilling and they give you quilting links....crazy

It's really not that hard to do. I did several before the book was even published. Here's a link to a couple of the 1st ones I did:

So don't be discouraged. I bet if you try you'll find it's not as difficult as you think. Of course i had the advantage of a new tool my husband made for me which helped alot. It has an extra long slotted section so that creating the cones is very easy. By varying the number of initial rolls before creating the cone you can create a wide variety of styles.

You'll notice on the unfinished doll that the legs don't flare out as much as a regular cone. Before elongating the cone I made 25 initial rolls creating a wider base for the cone.
