Hi Jody, yes.
There is one in Sydney that meets a few times a year. The lady I have been in contact with is currently getting ready for show and will be guiding us with some information as soon as she has a little time.
English Guild Rep is Licia Politis - e-mail me for contact details
I will do a post shortly with some information on the different guilds around but this is the only one in Australia that I am aware of. I am just waiting til I can catch her to grab some more info. She is also the lady who will be giving us information on who gives lessons and workshops in and around Sydney etc. You can give her a quick email and ask her for the details on joining the guild.

Any time, hopefully this week I should have more info on the goings on around the place.

Don't forget to mention Jean too. If you note in the workshops and lessons part of the forum she offers free lessons for beginners and advanced. She is a lovely lady and can be contacted directly through her site mentioned in the workshops and lessons post. She is well worth contacting for anyone needing direction as she is a seasoned quiller and author of 4 aussie quilling books ~ a wealth of information that is happy to avail herself!!

Karon, is the group in Sydney a branch of the UK guild or a true Aussie Guild OR none of these and just an informal gathering of quillers?
This group in Sydney have never advertised themselves much so I
just curious.
Some years ago this topic came up with someone I was in contact with in Albury who was interested in forming an Aussie guild or Association.
This is very hard to do, to get an Australian wide organisation together. I have seen this with cake decorating. It is alot of hard work with committees etc. both state wide and a national body of which the states become a part(if you wanted to do it that way.) And getting everyone to agree to rules of the organisation. I did not have the time to devote to forming such an organisation at the time.
But I guess it could be easier than the cake decorating one in one way, we would not have to be governed by food laws LOL

Hi Bronwyn,
To be honest I don't have much information on it as yet. I have been in contact with Licia who is the Guild rep. As far as I am aware she competes in many shows in the UK but as for them being affiliated with one another I can't say. I do know that the Sydney Quiller's meet every 3 months at a hall in Panania, Sydney and the next meeting is in early May. You can drop her a line and get some info if you like or it will be next week when I can get onto her to gain other info

I know that a lady named Meg Prance was the Australian Rep for the English Quillers Guild. That was a few years ago. I met her at the Brisbane Paper Craft Show. There was also an Australian Quillers Quartely, newsletter and shared paterns, which has died (sadly).

The English are very passionate about quilling and have big comps each year. Acreditation can be obtained through the English Quild. They produce a quartely magazine. I subscribed to it for a few years, until they put the subscriptions up. I still use the copies I do have as inspiration for my classes. Some of the pieces are truly remarkable.
The piece I like best is an otter made from loose coils.

Regards Jean

Okay here we go some updated information.

The Sydney quiller's aren't affiliated with the English Guild, but there are a lot of members who are members of both organisations/groups. The next Sydney quillers meeting is on the 16th May and meet at the Senior Citizen's hall in Panania, 10 am to 2 pm. All are welcome and the entrance fee is approx $8 each person, which will includes the morning tea and any classes and usually someone selling quilling supplies.
To join the Sydney quillers, all anyone needs to do is turn up and you will be most welcome, there is no newsletter, you are not committed to join or come every meeting. The E, guild and Sydney quillers are 2 separate oraganisations.

Licia is the regional rep for the this region for the English guild. She said she not sure of the current membership of the E.guild. The membership is paid once a year in October and the cost to quillers in this region is 26 pounds(at the moment)...the conversion will depend on the A$ but you can check on xe currency converter online. The guild have removed the joining fee and you will receive 3 magazines each 12 months. This magazine is called the "Quillers Today"and is well worth it, with lots of up to date info and inspiration not only for more experienced quillers, but for beginners and all levels. After joining this will allow you to enter the quilling competitions and attempt accreditation that part of the guild.

I will put this information in the events calender and workshops as there is classes attached to them, that way if down the track you decide you want to go you can find the information. That email address I noted earlier in the post is current for the English guild as our local contact. I am very tempted to catch one of those cheap flights and turn up for that Sydney group!! Wow it sounds great
