Post by Julz on 2010-04-09, 20:19

Hi all,
Anyone know of anywhere in NZ north island that I might find quilling strips/papers etc?

I am off to visit my beautiful 2 year old grand-daughter and her mum on 20th May - and I will be absent until 1st July - 6 lovely weeks!!

I love the pic of the quilled Kiwi on the Auckland shop site.
Looks like they will have plenty of stock if they conduct classes.

It's my first big adventure out of OZ - farthest I have been is Kangaroo Island lol! I am hanging to see my beautiful grand-daughter. She lived here with me for a while, and now I have her half brother full time. AND he is coming too which is a bonus for us all. He is so excited. We made a calendar up so he could cross off the days before we go - and he does it every night.

I sure will let you know what is going on - the trusty laptop is coming on holiday too!

Lucky! Where I live, there is no quilling strips miles around! The only ones where there ARE are the bad ones....they're too thick, I've tried them before! I always have to order them on the internet.

Counting down girls - 30 days to go - and just realised that my return date is the day before my grandson's school holidays start - oh what the hang - another 2 weeks in NZ won't kill us, I'm sure. He will love having more time with stepmum and sister! So my return date now has moved out to 15th July --- yahoooooo....

Been busy getting stuff ready to go - passports, tickets, packing etc. Boy packing for a 5 year old is a pain - every time I put something in, he take sit out.

Anyone got any good ideas on how to occupy a kid of that age on a plane for 5 - 7 hours (have to change planes unfortunately)?

Have been busy making cards of all sorts for my other grandies' school fund raiser. The girls go to a relatively small school and I make cards for them to sell and donate 50% of the profits to the school. I do all sorts of stuff - quilled cards of course, teabag folding, iris folding, 3d decoupage or paper tole, hand drawn/painted originals and so on. But my quilled ones are the favourites.

So if I am a bit quiet for a while, you all know why - I need to get a stack done for the school before I go away.

Got a reprieve on the wedding stuff too - the kids have postponed the big day until Feb next year - phew, says me, I can relax on that score a little bit at least.

Ooo! Ooo! I know how you can occupy a 5 year old on the plane! My mom used to always bring stuff with when we were young.

Well, I don't know what he can do or whatever, but I always liked those rainbow things that you can shave away to reveal a picture, know what I'm talkin about? Maybe, like a kiddy maze book or Mad Libs, or something like that. I am sure there are little packs of stuff you could buy for stuff like that, too.
