Another way to make a rose

Post by Heather on 2010-08-01, 12:57

Miriam asked me to do a tutorial on how I made this rose.

You will need a strip of paper that is at least 3/8 inch wide. If you have a wider strip you can adjust the length of the pieces you will need.

1. Cut at least 12 pieces of your strip about 5/8 - 6/8 inches long. It doesn't have to be accurate, you can cut your pieces shorter later if needed.

Cut one piece of the strip 2 1/2 - 3 inches in length. Cut this strip lengthwise in half.

Each of the 12 pieces of paper, cut the paper about halfway up lengthwise so that it resembles a pair of pants.

2. Cross the legs of your pants and glue the legs together so that they remain crossed. You should see a cute little indent which would be the crotch. Laughing

3. Use your quilling tool and fold back the piece of paper on each side diagonally in what would be the waistband of your pants.

4. Take your first two petals and glue the legs together on top of each other and opposite each other. See above diagram. This is where you can shorten your pant legs if you need to.

5. Glue petals on each of the sides and continue adding the petals working around until you are satisfied with the size of your rose.

6. Roll the long strip and let it uncoil. There is no need to glue the coil into a circle but rather let it uncoil and just glue it into the center of your rose.

I work from the inside out but I have heard that some people work from the outside planning the placement of the petals and glue the petals working towards the inside. Either way will work and you can figure out which works best for you.

HAVE FUN!
