Match your coils and scrolls

Post by Jocelyneliza on 2010-08-08, 06:45

Make extra pieces when you are doing a design or a large project, say wedding invitations. You can then match up sizes and pick the best looking ones. Any left over are already rolled for another project.

Great idea, thanks for sharing.

How do you store all of your extra rolls? I have little plastic boxes with dividers from a dollar store but I am finding as I work more, if I want to keep the colours separate, I need more and more little boxes and storage will soon be a problem in my small house.

I often make simple things like flowers in advance and put them in the little boxes. Is there a better way?

Heather, I also started out with little plastic boxes with dividers and all I did was buy Bigger and BIGGER boxes as I ran out of storage. Tackle boxes for fishermen seem to be the go. I actually have one that is double sided with 18 compartments each side. I also have two that have about 40 little compartments each. I only have about 5 storage boxes so I am not going too bad!

I gotta say that my "reject" coils and scrolls get put in a jar and then when it's raining or the kids are driving me extra made I give them the jar, a piece of card and some glue and tell them to make a card for someone....it's pretty awesome watching my 4 and 5 year olds create something from my "rejects"

You can also get those Grage / Workshop drawer storage cabinets. They are readily available at any hardware store, walmart, I have even seen them on occasion at Dollar General. They come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, with any number of clear plastic pull out drawers. In case you dont know what I am talking about I have posted a link to one at walmart. These are great because they are see through, much larger size compartments then the small ones in craft organizers, and they are stackable too! You can find them in all price ranges from as little as $5-$50
