PostSubject: Artistry in Wood quilling paper   Fri 10 Sep 2010, 12:38 pm

I received some of this paper in a job lot on ebay from someone's estate. I'm guessing from the kits and books that came with it that this paper is between 30-40 years old. It isn't as smooth as today's papers and seems a bit thicker but I am really liking it. I have tried to research it but haven't found any leads yet. Does anyone know about this paper?

Has anyone found a site that compares the different papers?

Wow Heather that's a hard one. I have some books that old but as they are black and white it is hard to see what the paper is like. Would the paper have been hand cut at that time? I was going to get some strips done from a hand made paper supplier just for something different but I tried rolling it and because it doesn't have the same fibre structure, it didn't coil well at all. In fact, it tended to bend rather than roll and wouldn't spring out at all. I never really thought about the paper back then

I was just thinking, a good person to ask would be Ann Martin at all things paper. You can contact her through the members page, she would be able to give you some great info

Thanks Karon. I doubt these strips are hand cut because they are all glued together at one end only and are a little over 24 inches in length. Completed projects aren't quite as delicate looking as todays papers but for nature scenes they would work really well. This job lot came with two kits with eagles and it looks like this paper was used for them as well. There is a woman who I haven't met who loves quilling birds. I'm going to a scrapbooking event tomorrow and she is supposed to be there too, so I am going to get to meet her and give her these kits. It will be interesting to see if she likes this paper too.
