Hi there, I'm Wendakai!

Post by Wendakai on 2010-09-21, 06:41

I hope I've hit the right button. Smile I live in Ontario, Canada. Here is some of my quilling art: http://writimages.blogspot.com/p/inspirational-message-service.html

I'm about to begin work on some more so I can do a local Christmas sale this year. Thought it would be fun to share ideas, so I came searching for a forum. I'm in my fifties, am a wife, and mom to a teen girl. I learned quilling from my mom who created many beautiful pieces. I took two of her workshops and after she passed on, I decided to give it a try. I never thought I'd have the patience, but I'm very much enjoying it.

Hi Wendakai
I am so glad you came to join us. You are at the right place as we all looooove quilling here and ideas especially. It is a very friendly easy going group from all over the world. In fact I think Heather is not far from you!!
Quilling has been the only craft I have been good at and after 7 children I needed something that was good on the nerves and boy do I go into another world with it. I love your frog and I hope you will share your guitar with us since I have a son inlaw and son who play and I would love some pointers on how you made it!!
Again welcome and happy quilling
Karon

Hi Wen, welcome to this forum. This is a small world. I used to live in Mississauga and worked in Toronto for many years. Now I am about an hour and a half drive away from you. It really amazes me how people think they could never quill and within minutes they catch on and become hooked to this craft. I showed someone how to do it quickly tonight and within 5 minutes she caught on. I find it really relaxing and enjoy it too. Your quilling is beautiful and whimsical. Have you any ideas on what sort of things you want to do for your craft sale?

Hi everyone!

@Karon: For the frog I just roughly followed a frog picture on a little book I have. I was very much winging it. Forgot to take a picture of finished piece and it sold first. I cut a wee straw hat in half and put it on the frog's head, then a piece of fluffy feather on the hat (to be jaunty), surrounded it with cat tails and grasses, and the poem: "What a wonderful bird the frog are...

It's by one of my two fave writers, Anonymous. (The other one is Author Unknown.) ;o) So I wasn't stepping on any toes.

Oh... storm here and just lost the power. I'm on battery. Better log off now and come back later after the storm. Not finished answering you all! Smile

Welcome Wen,
It is strange we have to start thinking of Christmas already but I am sure once we start we will get into the swing of it.
Nice blog.

Hi everyone! What a storm! Power back on. Smile

@Karon, as for the guitar, I started with my daughter's music mags, looked up some guitars on the 'net and chose a basic design, which I drew, tucked under the wax paper and went from there. Later I printed up some guitars, just for the basic shape. I have made and sold several... they're popular! Smile

Hi Heather! I'd like to do a butterfly like my mom did for my daughter (have that one for a guideline); some fish (aquarium scene); some birds. And I'm going to make some jewellery.. pointsetta earrings, and some greeting cards and tags. Smile Of course, I always make plans and wind up going some other direction. ;o)

@Philippa. I LOVE your web page! I really like the idea of combining mediums too. You've done some great stuff. I like photography too and yep... gonna combine these two things for sure. Smile

Thanks Paula! Smile

Hi Bronwyn! I know. Regardless of the craft, if we don't start working on Christmas by Labour Day, we're behind! ;o) As well as the quilling, I need to start on some nature craft kits... angels, birds, etc. Will post more on this another time. Smile

@Philippa I had some photos put by that I forgot about. I was going to try to make some wee faery people and put them on a photo of a purple cone flower. It was taken during the day, but I doctored it and darkened the background so it looks like night. And I have a "snowstorm at night" taken by hubby I was planning to add snowflakes to. Smile Didn't know if it would work, but your work encourages me. I'll take pics and post them when I'm done. Right now, working on a butterfly. Smile

Sounds great! I take my camera with me almost everywhere now, because I'm always seeing potential backgrounds for my quilling. I expect it will be the same for you ... have fun!

I carry mine around, but I tend to forget I have it. Same as those photos I put away. It's my memory that's the problem... hehe ;o)
