Thanks Lauren,

I live at Parramatta and if there are some good workshops I will probably attend two days. Rosehill is a great venue.

I went to the Craft Show at Rosehill and while there was not much in the way of quilling supplies there were quite a few exhibitors with card-making, stamping and scrapbooking supplies. Of course there was quilting, patchwork, embroidery, tapestry and candlewicking suppliers and lots of beading.

I picked up an interesting product called Perlen-Pen which adds "shimmering half-round pearl drops on your textiles, hand made greeting cards and scrapbooking". It is in a botte with a tip and you squeeze drops of the product out to form the pearl. It was $10.00 for 25ml and for anyone who likes to add pearls to their artwork this would be very economical. Bought one for my friend in Bathurst. (I very seldom use any embellishments on my quilling so she will get a lot of use out of it as she always has pearls on her quilling). I think this is quite a new products as when I googled it most of the sites were Dutch. This site may give you an idea of the product.

Perlen-Pen

If anyone in Australia is interested in this product I purchased from

Posh Pendants

I attended a Make and Take workshop run by Posh Pendants using another new product which is enamelling without having to use a kiln. I selected a fish pendant to complete and the enamelling is either painted on with quite a fine brush or, for the really fine work, there is a fine tip applicator the same as the fine tip glue bottle. The enamelling liquid is self levelling as is the glaze which is the final coat. It takes about 24 hours for the enamelling to dry completely. The finished effect is really good. About $4.00 a bottle and I bought four. Hope this is not one of those products I buy and put in the cupboard for later use.

I love beading, not stringing but using needle and thread to construct the article. I came across a beading stitch I had not seen or heard before, St Petersburgh Stitch. It would look good as bracelet or choker and makes a really stunning Open Lariat Necklace. Bought the Lariat kit and have started it. I think the finished product will be really striking. At another beading stand I bought a very small bead spinner, seems to be much more sensible than the larger ones. This stand also featured beading on wire so, yes, I bought a ring and a brooch kit as well.

When I was a child sewing machine thread had wooden spools and we collected these, hammered four nails in and spent our time "french knitting". Then there came Knitting Dollies (aka Knitting Nancy) which were made of plastic and gave the same result as our wooden spool and nails but, I think, lost some of the adventure. Well now they have mechanized the Knitting Dolly utilizing latch hooks, (the same as you would find on a knitting machine), wheels with cogs, ball bearings and a handle to turn and the knitting comes out at such a fast pace and is called an Embellish Knit. You can use up to 6 ply yarn or thread and it takes only a few minutes to "knit" up 50 gram ball. If you use crochet thread or 4 ply knitting cotton the resulting "knitting" can be used for frogging or to make flowers. The resulting "knitting" can also be used as yarn for crochet or knitting, using 9mm hook or needles, to make scarves, bags, beanies or whatever you can imagine. Yes I bought one - $35.00. Have a look at it here.

Embellish Knit

So to sum up my time at the Craft Show, I enjoyed my time, saw what I wanted to, discovered some new and interesting products and spent way more than I intended. I thought there were not as many exhibitors as in previous Shows but there was still a great variety.

Sounds like you had a fun time!
Those pens are cool! And as for the knitter, (I don't know the name for it) but I have one and they are fun, but not as fun as quilling. Smile

I hope to get to some shows this year!

Thanks for the rundown, Jocelyn!

I would be interested in the pen you mentioned Jocelyn. Sounds a great idea.
We do not have our usual March Craft show in Melbourne so not sure when I will get to one this year.
Glad you had fun

Bronwyn, the pearl pens come in lots of colours and you can easily control the size of the pearls.

As for the craft shows Stitches and Craft was sold about 4 years ago and the new owners did not go so well with it and went broke. The show we had at Rosehill was called Craft Expo and will be in Melboure October 6-9 at the Royal Exhibition Building Carlton Gardens. The Craft and Quilt show will be at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, Southbank on 28-31 July.

Sounds like you had lots of fun and scored some new toys to try out. Later this year, there will be some craft shows in my area and I hope to find some new things too. Love the idea of the pens that make pearls.

I remember the wooden spools and nails, that we used when I was little and we called it corking.

Thanks for the update Jocelyn. It sounds like you had a busy day.

I have updated the "Quilling Events" section of the forum with all of the Craft and Quilt Fair Dates and the Craft Expo dates.

There is also a Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo in Brisbane in June.

Just found something else I bought at the Craft Show. Have been trying to teach myself Chinese Knotting from a book for quite a few years. Found these and they work great!

Chinese Knotting templates

Wish I had had them before I did the placecards for Andrew's wedding as I could have attached the card to the chopsticks with the bead knot, or not (no pun intended) it would have been so much more work but it would have looked great.
