scrolls problems

Post by harleygirl on 2011-11-07, 08:48

Hi everyone, need some advise on glueing scrolls. They seem to unravel too much especially when doing double scrolls and I have trouble with them moving when i place them on the card sometimes leaving glue marks there YUK. Anyway would someone be able to tell me if i should let the glue set on the back longer (sometimes doing this makes it not glue) Any tips????? thanks guys

Hi there harleygirl the only tip I can give you with not getting glue on your card is put a little glue on your finger and run your finger on the edge of the paper. I find using a thicker paper and rolling it a little tighter than normal,I find it unrolls less and keeps it's shape better, it works for me. good luck

I would say anywhere between 100 to 120 gram. Just make sure you cut it on the grain, meaning on an A4 paper from top to bottom, this way the scrolls unroll evenly. I am sure you know that paper is like material. Have you tried using your finger for the gluing, I know it can be a messy thing, but it works.

Different papers have different weights. You can experiment to see if it is suitable if it rolls up easily and keeps its quilled shape.
Really thin paper and really thick does not work.
It really depends what you are quilling, you may choose to use different colours. On the other hand, some single colour quilling looks really good.

Hi Harleygirl, I have just returned to the forum and read your query so thought this may help. When I first started quilling I had the same trouble with scrolls unravelling until I realised I did not need to glue all the edge of the scroll. Now, using a pin, I just dot the glue around the scroll. The less glue you use the less the scoll will unravel.

I then use a pair of tweezers to place the scroll and with the finger from my other hand I hold the scroll down for a few seconds until the glue "takes". Practice using less and less glue and you may be surprised at how little glue you need.
